The Guide

oil 24"x30"

“Early spring was the first time I witnessed my companion unaware of the new tiny blue flowers she loved to dine upon bloom through the valley. She could no longer see them. My heart sank as I came to understand that her vision was completely extinguished.

As her sight began to fail some time ago I became her sole guide and companion. I have sought her safety and good over many miles and seasons. Departing only a few weeks in the summer for reunion with my kind, I felt that pull these days as the weather grew warmer. This with my own transformation gave me clear understanding of the time as these are the imprint of God on my being.

I wouldn’t be leaving this time. My bones could hardly bear the crushing thought that the life of my dear friend was coming to an end. She would die without my service, if not from harm, then from loneliness and fear. And now, at the close of the day, I set my will to remain with her until her days were spent.”
